Piranha is a love song (sort of). Maybe it says something about my psychology or deep-rooted fear of the (..er..) gentle sex that I should liken my few encounters with them to tangling with some of nature’s more lethal spawn. Still, I’ve tried to mediate my panic by way of a rather lilting tune. “Beguiling”, a friend said as he was struggling to become familiar with my TV remote control.

Piranha

You’re a pretty little fish alright
With your teeth so piranha white
Whoo-ee! I could be
With a carnivore tonight

Silly as it may now seem
It was all about my self-esteem
But do you think that I could just stand by
As you picked my bones clean?

So I will rise in the early morn’
By the cruel light of dawn
And while the city sleeps and lovers creep
While mothers weep I’ll be gone

No use in me looking back
Into those pools of midnight black
Clickety-clack goes the railroad track
No use in me looking back
