A filigree of fingerstyle underpinning a wine infested vocal. A song borne out the twilight world of insomnia and dispiriting day-jobs.

Or not, as the case may be.

The tune I made up in the mid 1970s. That’s 30 years to finish a song. I’m happy now that I can move on now to the next.

I dedicate this with affection to my fellow cubase.net members who, like me, are the weekend warriors and weekday civilians. Who get their musical inspiration from the rhythmic swish of the office photocopy machine; the bird-like warble of telephones; the panoramic sweep of yet another PowerPoint presentation. Who arise daily part-conscious from sleep and slouch with numb stoicism towards the coffee pot. You heroes of Independent Musicianship! Never bending (except when slouching); always cheerful; always resourceful, faithful to the DAW (aka Digital Audio Workstation. aka recording studio). Who gig when they can or will without complaint bar the grumble. Heroes of their own lunch-time. Tired and determined. The obstinate heaving sigh. Go your own singular way (me hearties). Press on. Alone with allies. A Singular in a Plurality. Well-why-the-hell-not?

Of course if you dig your day-job, then your mileage will vary with this song.

Living Is Easy

I lie awake at night
But I’m not counting sheep
I’m just trying
To get some sleep

Turn on the radio
A little Jazz FM
I’d sleep easy
If I could play like them

Get up in the morning
Go to shave my face
Get ready
To join the human race

A coffee and a cigarette
For the sake of my heart
These days it needs a little
Kick start

Step into the big wide world
March along in time
Try to remember which
One of these steps is mine

Living is easy
Without any sub-plots
I’m just happy
Joining up the dots
