“A Little Bit Of Fun”
Play the song:
One one night stand among many one night stands. It’s a singular event when one one night stand stands out from all the other one night stands. Outstanding, you might say. Or so I would speculate; meaning that this is an exercise in painting a picture and drawing conclusions (I’m rarely happier than when I’m mixing metaphors in a food blender). Its faux-jazzy feel is just the ticket for this piece of kidology. It’s veneer of poignant regret doesn’t, I think, conceal the deceit of the tall tale telling at all.
I did read that that somebody liked “the story” for which I am glad because evidently that listener, at least, wasn’t “taken in”.
A Little Bit Of Fun
When I booked a double room for the week
I bet you thought that I was clever
When you saw the rain falling down my cheek
I bet you thought that it was the weather
‘cause it was just a little bit of fun
and the fun it is past and done
When I took my seat upon the aeroplane
I bet you thought that I was flying
When I said I’d like to see you again
I bet you thought that I was lying
Now when I book into another double room
What does it really all amount to?
And when I lie staring up at the moon
Sometimes I even think about you
