“Everybody’s Somebody”
Play the song:
When picking up my guitar I used to habitually pick the opening chords as a means to checking it was in tune. I can’t remember why one day I would suddenly think the sequence good enough, not only to start a song with, but to continue with unremittingly to the end. But obviously I did and I suppose I hope it’s a reasonable stab at writing a simple song with the meagerest of materials. I use other chords to check the guitar’s in tune now, so watch this space.
If the tune was a very quick affair, then the lyrics were not far behind. I think I had them down in a couple of hours and apart from one line which I changed later, that was it. Finito.
A guitar playing friend of mine, who happened to work on an offshore oil installation in the North Sea, liked it so much she had me show her the tune. I heard some time later that the song was indeed being played to these hardened, no-nonsense oil workers. I have no idea what they thought of it.
Everybody’s Somebody
Everybody’s somebody’s
Nice to know
Everybody’s somebody’s
Got to go
Everybody’s somebody’s
I’d better not
Everybody’s somebody’s
I wish I’d gone and got it all
Everybody’s somebody’s
English rose
Everybody’s somebody’s
Take off your clothes
Everybody’s somebody’s
Have another drink
Everybody’s somebody’s
What kind of girl do you think I am?
Everybody’s somebody’s
Carnival
Everybody’s somebody’s
Funeral
Everybody’s somebody’s
Next affair
Everybody’s somebody’s
