“The Tumbler”
Play the song:
This is a song borne out of the boredom and frustration that arose from deep with me after some years after I had retired from performing in 1981. All the colourful metaphors are my way of juxtaposing my internal urges with my life of conformity in verse.
The Tumbler
Long long time
Since my heart was beating fast
Longer than a long time
Since my fishing line was cast
If I ever
see to much for my
own good, good god,
hey, then I’ll close my eyes
Long, long time
Since my step was feather light
Longer than a long time
Since I was a thief in the night
Long, long time
Since danger was in my day
Longer than a long time
Since my last “hip! hip! hooray!”
Long, long time
l’ve been safe as a rich man’s house
Longer than a long time
I’ve been quiet as a rich man’s mouse
